Laurie's Bio

Singer-songwriter LAURIE LEE LEWIS

Laurie Lee Lewis. Easy name, right? Well in a 20 years career span, this singer-songwriter has performed under 4 names! She started as Laurie Lee Little. Began performing age 6. Got married soon after graduation and became Laurie Haynes. (Marriage lasted 5 years but the name stayed for 17! During that time Laurie professionally modeled, did radio jingles, recorded 2 albums, had a band named Heart Strings and toured for several country artists in the 90's. In 1997, Laurie got married to Wes Lewis, had their daughter, and the two began making music as Calico Hearts. Laurie started recording again after the tragedy of 9-11. There was confusion with another Laurie Lewis singing bluegrass, so Laurie opted to singer under the name Summer Lee.  After 4 years as Summer Lee, recording 2 albums, Laurie decided to use her married name again, but kept the "Lee". WHEW! (Mostly cuz her hubby kept calling her 'Laurie' on stage and confusing her audience!  The fun thing is, Laurie now has several music projects with ALL her names.  Those who have her former work, consider it "the collector's editions!"

Laurie was raised in NW Washington state on a tiny farm. A total country cowgirl raising calves and riding her horses. Both her folks, Jack and Darlene Little are musicians, and both had their own bands early in their marriage. Laurie grew up as part of the family band, singing harmony with her mom.

Laurie's music started out straightforward country, following writing styles of her idols Loretta Lynn and Laurie's mom. (Loretta & Darlene were friends in the early days)  Laurie's first country LP, OLD FASHION LOVE, released in 1988 as Laurie Haynes, received radio airplay throughout the US and Europe.  CDs replaced LPs only 6 months after Laurie had pressed them. (If only she had known!)

Laurie's 2nd album RIDE MY BLUES AWAY opened some big doors when a concert promoter from the NW heard the project and wanted to try his hand at management. He immediately signed Laurie and put her on the road with Bill Anderson, Mel McDaniel and Lacy J Dalton as their opening act. The biggest thrill was when Laurie sang a duet with country legend Mr. Ferlin Husky, at the Tacoma Dome for 16,000 attendees! Laurie was scheduled to open for Reba McIntire for 6 shows, when the horrible news of Reba's band being killed in a plane crash changed everything.

After working with the promoter Laurie branched out to a new direction when a humanitarian light came on. She moved to Branson, MO to tap into the music scene. One stormy night she had a dream. She saw the actress Audrey Hepburn. In the dream, Laurie wanted to move in a new direction with her music. Ms. Hepburn hugged Laurie and whispered "WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE." Laurie awoke at 2 AM following the dream and wrote the words to the song ONE LIGHT in its entirety.  Later that day, on the news, Laurie learned that Ms. Hepburn had died that very evening, right about the time she had her dream! This was the beginning of Laurie realizing the power of song. And the power of inspiring others with hope. She returned to the NW and started a non-profit Org. called THE ONE LIGHT PROJECT. She recorded the song, made a video and raised money for 3 charities. See music video at www.youtube.com/user/laurieleelewis

Two years down the road, itching to perform again, Laurie formed a band called HEART STRINGS. The band was a fun mix of longtime musicianship. Harvey DeJong on bass and powerful solid country vocals (including yodelling), Michael Savatgy brought his flat top guitar picking and award winning bluegras banjo playing and on mandolin and drums, Wain Harrison brought his rock background. The 4 infused their backgrounds to create a fun variety show for families.

Then Laurie met Wes Lewis, moved to the Portland, OR, eventually bought an old farm in Camas, WA. Life shifted. While still doing some music, the focus was on raising their little daughter, Callie, (who now, at 11 is writing, singing and producing her own music, an slowing down. A move back closer to Laurie's parents on the North end of the state brought life full circle to "pickin and grinnin", recording in their own studio, and raising money for charities again. Since the move north in 2004, with their new company UNDER THE RAINBOW CREATIONS, the Lewis family has recording 3 CDs. 1. We'd Rather Be Streamin' (all about the joys of traveling in their 1973 Airstream travel trailer 2. Callie's Christmas CD "Winter Wonderland" that raised a bunch of money for the animal charity PAWS. And the recent 16 song release ONE TO ONE, of Laurie's writings, raising money for 5 charities.

Yup yup yup... dat's Laurie's story.... yeehaw!
